Distilleries in Louisville Serving Up More Than Bourbon

While Louisville is rightfully famous for bourbon, Derby City distillers craft other spirits, too. From vodka and gin to brandy and rum, sample a variety of local offerings at these distilleries near our apartments in Louisville.

Prohibition Craft Spirits

Located a short ten-minute walk from Axis on Lexington, Prohibition Craft Spirits produces vodka, rum, and even Reposado.  Stop by the Prohibition Bar for a cocktail or register for a cocktail class and learn to build your own. Currently, Prohibition offers multiple tours 7 days a week, so there’s no excuse not to check them out. While there, you’ll learn all about Louisville during the Prohibition Era and get the chance to sample some tasty libations.

Distillery 64

Across the Ohio River, just outside of Louisville, is another Prohibition-style distillery: Distillery 64. Currently, Distillery 64 offers two varieties of rum, a vodka, and a gin. Their spirits are available to try at the bar, either straight or in a cocktail. You can also purchase full bottles in the tasting room. Though only open to the public on Fridays and Saturdays, it’s well worth taking time out of your weekend to visit. Just be sure to review the directions on their website before arriving. True to theme, the speakeasy is in an old warehouse and a bit tricky to find.

Copper & Kings

Copper & Kings is located in the Butchertown neighborhood of Louisville, but even without an exact address, it’s hard to miss–the retail space at the front entrance is constructed out of a massive orange freight container. The boldness of the main entrance is matched by the boldness of the distillery’s brandy, absinthe, and gin, all of which you can sample at their rooftop bar overlooking downtown Louisville. To get a behind-the-scenes look at the production of Copper & King’s spirits, book a tour and tasting. Be sure to ask about their process of sonic aging, in which the spirits rest in barrels while “listening” to music.

There’s always something exciting to discover at these distilleries in Louisville. Whether you love bourbon, other spirits, or just a good cup of coffee, it’s within reach at Axis on Lexington. Contact us today to learn about joining our community. We can’t wait to meet you.
