What was once a best-kept secret now draws visitors from around the world. We’re talking about the Louisville Mega Cavern, and it was mined from the early 1930s to the early 1970s. Even though it is underground, it’s the largest building in all of Kentucky. The cavern is about 14 minutes from our Louisville apartments, and it offers much to see and do. Here is some of what you’ll discover during your visit:
Mega Walking Tour
Start your visit with the Mega Walking Tour. It offers a fabulous way to take in the sites while learning about the cavern’s fascinating history. You’ll explore about 60 percent of the cave. Be sure to bring a jacket as the inside temperature is between 58 and 60 degrees year-round.
To ride instead of walking, hop aboard the Mega Tram. During the exciting journey, the Mega Cave Expert will offer an up-close look at the highlights and share unforgettable stories. You’ll see some of the cave’s early formations, learn about the early mining operations, and so much more.
If ziplining is on your bucket list, now is your chance to cross it off. The cavern is home to the world’s only fully underground zipline course. The heart-pumping fun comes complete with six zip lines and two challenge bridges designed to test your skills and balance.
For another thrill, don’t miss Mega Quest. This aerial ropes course features 76 challenges, and you’ll have just two hours to try them all. Remember to wear a pair of closed-toe shoes.
After exploring the Louisville Mega Cavern, stop by a nearby restaurant and enjoy some of the best fried chicken in town. Finally, when you’re ready to call Axis on Lexington home, please contact us. We’d love for you to see our apartments in Louisville firsthand.Back to all posts
